Word from the current Chairman
                                                             GOWRI  KAILAS

chairman             Dear friends:
It has been a real privilege and pleasure serving as the chairman of the
IANO  Board.  On behalf of the IANO Board and the Executive committee,
I would like to express our sympathies to the families who were affected by                      Hurricane Katrina.  We wish you all the best in the recovery.

IANO of New Orleans is a non-profit volunteer umbrella organization that                          represents all sister organizations of the community of Indian heritage.  IANO
has been serving New Orleans and its neighborhood areas since 1966. Our                      mission is to facilitate integration of the community of the Indian heritage in our                  new homeland, the United States of America, while upholding our highest                            democratic ideals and traditions.

This year IANO has reached its 40 year anniversary. To celebrate our anniversary, our executive committee                 planned two colorful programs: Indian  Independence Day along with Food Festival, which was celebrated on                 August 13, 2006, at the Kenner City Park. The programs were very successful. Kenner Mayor Ed Muniz, who             was the guest of honor at the celebration, proclaimed August 13 as ‘India Day” at the Kenner City Council                     Meeting.

We are hosting Diwali celebration and the 40th Anniversary of the Association on October 29, 2006 at the                     Pontchartrain Center in Kenner. We will need everyone’s participation in this event to make it successful.
I also encourage all residents of Indian origin in the metropolitan New Orleans area to become an IANO                         member and actively participate in our activities.

We Indians here in the United States are certainly on the march. We have been recognized for the scale of our                 achievements, in all areas like electronics, engineering, medicine, and politics.  We have been discussing building             an Indian community Hall, but nothing has been decided.  Let us take the advice of the Indian Prime Minister,                 Manmohan Singh, who said,   “We must shun the politics of divisiveness and adopt the politics of change and                 progress”.

Should you have any questions regarding IANO membership and want to actively participate in the association,             please feel free to contact me, our president Amit Ghosh or any one of the board members.

            With warm regards,
            Gowri S. Kailas
